We are active in forest cultivation and environmental responsibility in Brazil. We do sustainable forest management, effluent treatment, pollution control, solid, liquid and gaseous waste management, permanent environmental education campaigns, minimum cultivation in forests, among many other actions that BERNECK® carries out in commitment to the preservation of the environment. We plant over 7 million trees a year. All of our wood comes from planted forests, preserving native forests and ensuring employment and income in the countryside for thousands of families.
All the processes of this production are followed in detail, from the choice of seeds, planting, cultivation, harvest, to the industrialization of our products. This is how we have been certified in Forest Management by FSC®, an international certification system that recognizes managed forests in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically viable way.
Our planted forests and native areas have a stock of 46,634,982 tons of Carbon. This is one of our main environmental assets. According to the 2022 report, which mapped the 2021 emissions and removals. Once again BERNECK removed much more carbon from the atmosphere than it emitted: 8,575,011 tons of CO2e.

Our forestry programs work to protect and preserve water sources, soils, fauna, ciliary areas and other natural reserves. They contribute to the regulation of hydrological cycles, erosion control and soil quality, biodiversity conservation, carbon removal and stock and other key measures to reduce the effects of climate change in the world. As an environmentally responsible company, we calculate atmospheric emissions in all operations performed by BERNECK® - with the exception of Mato Grosso.
We compile this information in the Greenhouse Gas Inventories - GEE that collaborate in the elaboration of strategies, plans and goals for the reduction of emissions and positive intervention in climate change. On the other hand, our more than 64.5 thousand hectares of forest plantations actively contribute to the removal of carbon from the environment by trees, surpassing – and a lot – our emissions of CO2.
In our industrial units Araucária (PR), Curitibanos and Lages (SC), the residues of the production process – the Pinus bark and the wood dust generated in the classification, grinding and sanding processes – that would be discarded in the environment, are used for the production of thermal energy and steam through the burning of biomass. This clean and renewable energy corresponds to approximately 60% of the energy used in our industrial processes, saving natural resources. We have industrial units entirely planned to collect and channel rainwater, which is directed to our ponds and reservoirs.
These practices, added to the Effluent Treatment and Chemical Treatment plants, neutralize and allow the reuse of liquid organic waste and product condensates in various processes, which reduce about 30% of the water used in the factories. In addition to the co-generation of energy and the reuse of water, all disposable solid products – such as paper, plastics, ferrous, non-ferrous, lamps, batteries – have controlled internal collection and storage, and are intended for companies registered and licensed by environmental agencies to recycle these materials.

Our planted forests are adjacent to forest preservation areas, where there is full and complete preservation of Flora and Fauna. We act in reducing the use of chemicals in the production process, adopting the minimum cultivation, without using fire, fertilizers or any type of treatment for the preparation of the land, use of branches and roots left in the forest to replace soil nutrients, among many other actions that BERNECK® performs for the benefit of the regeneration and maintenance of the preservation areas.
We monitored more than 250 animal species circulating in our planted and native areas in Paraná and Santa Catarina. The programs we carry out, together with the routines that inhibit the occurrence of hunting and fishing, contribute to the preservation of rare and endangered species.
We are proud of our employees. There are countless life stories that make our company committed to society in a truly responsible way. We are a family business and, from family to family, we believe in the technical and human development of our employees.
There are about 3,000 direct employees in Paraná, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso who carry out training and qualification through trainee programs, leadership development and scholarship assistance to finance technical, undergraduate and graduate courses. We encourage the constant development of our employees and believe that we grow together, looking in the same direction.

In addition to our employees and their families, we see our fundamental role in the progress of society on a cultural, social and economic level. The development of communities close to our industrial and forestry units has always been among our objectives and achievements focused on human development, prioritizing projects aimed at children and adolescents, the elderly, the physically disabled and very low-income people. We invest in sports and cultural projects focusing on community development and social transformation.
Our projects in Paraná, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso support communities in several ways, including six types of social investments: direct donation, investment in infrastructure for municipalities, tax benefit laws such as the Rouanet Law, Sports Incentive Law, Childhood and Adolescence Fund and Elderly Fund.
Our incentive policy is on projects that build people and communities. Through incentive laws, BERNECK® supports projects that help the State create synergy and positive social impact, providing stimulus to young people and the general population.
And for valuing people, BERNECK® also bets on a Governance and Compliance program. We are a high performance company, with an aligned, competent and, above all, transparent management. Our family values transcend generations and employees, because we believe in unity, clarity and transparency in everything we do.
Our socio-environmental practices are based on ethical principles and concern for the whole. Since the seed planted in the soil, which almost two decades later will become the raw material for the coated panels, all our processes are developed to be as sustainable as possible. Made to leave minimal environmental impact and offer innovative solutions. From family to family, from our home to your environment.

Our ESG practices – Environmental, Social and Governance - incorporate issues from these three areas, going beyond traditional economic-financial metrics. From them, we consolidate our vision on the subject, connect initiatives and indicators that prove our performance in the conservation of the environment, relationship with the community and corporate conduct.
